Retraite Québec’s page for people who have stopped working or whose employment earnings have decreased considerably because of their state of health and who could be entitled to a disability pension under the Québec Pension Plan. It sets out who can receive the pension, its amount and payments, and how to apply.

On the syllabus

  • Exam GH-201C — GH201-723-26: Disability Pension under the Quebec Pension Plan; outcomes 4a.

Can you receive a disability pension?

  • An application must meet four conditions: being deemed disabled by Retraite Québec’s medical advisors before age 65, having sufficiently contributed to the Québec Pension Plan, not being entitled to an unreduced income replacement indemnity from the CNESST, and not receiving a retirement pension under the Canada Pension Plan
  • Could you be deemed to be disabled by Retraite Québec’s medical advisors?
    • The condition must be severe, preventing any type of work on a full-time basis, and permanent, of indefinite duration with no possibility of improvement
    • An insurance company or other agency deeming you disabled does not automatically entitle you to the pension, as its eligibility requirements may differ
  • Did you make sufficient contributions to the Québec Pension Plan?
