APC

The Associateship Professionalism Course (APC) is the final requirement for the ASA designation and the CERA credential. Candidates examine and discuss case studies based on actual business situations, and analyze and recommend solutions that align with the Code of Professional Conduct, Standards of Practice, ethics and legal liability. There is no exam. A candidate takes the course after completing all other ASA requirements, and only by invitation, which comes from APC@soa.org.

About the course

The APC is offered in person or virtually. The SOA listed the fee as 658 for the virtual course and 847 in person (read 2026-10-17). Every candidate scheduled for a particular APC cohort receives credit for the APC on the same day, at the end of the last week of the virtual sessions.

A virtual APC runs over a month-long timeframe and has two components:

  • An e-Learning module, completed on one's own (estimated 3–4 hours), with approximately 14 days to complete it.
  • A virtual meeting session, a case discussion in which small groups of candidates and one facilitator meet on a virtual meeting platform (estimated 2–3 hours). Scheduling options span a two-week period. A participant absent for more than 10 minutes has to repeat the entire course.
